How to Feed Your Dragon Egg in Tera

NOTE: If you are playing on the PS4 or XBOX, please skip to the Old Pet System section of this page.

Partner or Pet? [ ]

Sparky, one of the Dragonette reskins

Patch in May 2019 added new style pets called Partners to TERA on PC and made some changes to old system.

A Pet is a small creature that follows players around. Pet can also have abilities. Pets now have Energy and Experience bars and level.

A Partner is new-style companion with a Bond Skill and a random Gifted Skill. A partner has Stamina (similar to energy) and Fellowship bars. Partners can also have abilities, up to six and you can transfer abilities from pets. Partner also has power buff, which makes it work like brooch in battle. A pet can be evolved to partner when its level reaches 10.

One character can now have maximum of 10 pets or partners that are listed in Companions Menu (pets were previously learned as skills and listed in Skills Menu). List may be expanded with certain items (from cash shop or events). Pets are summoned from menu, or you can assign five first ones a key in Options->Shortcuts.

Abilities [ ]

Pet can have abilities:

  • Special Storage aka Pet Pocket
  • Auto-loot items
  • Auto-loot gold
  • Auto-use potions (health or mana or various types)
  • Auto-gather (gathering nearby nodes automatically)
  • InvigoRod (while pet is out, you have chance to fish a BAF even auto-fishing)
  • Self-sufficient (pet feeds itself while you have food/figurines in inventory)

After changes 72-slot Special Storage can be accessed from banker too.

Energy [ ]

When a pet is summoned, it will lose energy over time. In order to restore this energy players must purchase or craft Pet Food. Better quality pet food will give a pet experience along with energy.

There are four types of food players can acquire for their pets: Pet Treat, Pet Food, Common Pet Food, Juicy Pet Food, Organic Pet Food.

More expensive pet food also gives pet XP that raises its level. Maximum level of pet is 10.

Experience/Level [ ]

In order to increase a pet's level, you must feed it with items. You can use an assortment of unneeded items as fodder, including various enchanting materials, crystals and niveots, right through to relics and halidoms.

Feeding pet:

  • 1532 Golden Talents, or
  • 1532 Liquid Metal, or
  • 766 Hypnotic Devices, or
  • 766 Archdevan Formulas, or
  • 479 Artisan's Tools, or
  • 256 Copper Clasps, or
  • 256 Scavenged Supplies, or
  • 192 Devil's Claws, or
  • 192 Dragon Skulls, or
  • 154 Pulsating Essences, or
  • 1532 Titan's Fire/Peace/Earth/Storm, or
  • ~4000 Exodor Scout Weapon Feedstock I
  • 103 Exodor Scout Weapon Feedstock II
  • 10 Exodor Scout Weapon Feedstock III
  • 307 Exodor Scout Armor Feedstock II
  • 28 Exodor Scout Armor Feedstock III
  • 10 Dark Shard Weapon/Armor Feedstock

immediately levels pet up to level 10.

Pets gain XP when they are fed and can level up. You can Evolve a grade 10 pet into a random companion using Evolution Core. Pet evolution can fail, reducing your pet to grade 9. No abilities are transferred from evolving pets.

Combining/Fusion [ ]

Pets can be combined for a chance to obtain a new pet or a new partner. The higher the pets' levels are, the higher the chance of obtaining a partner. The combined pets no longer exist. No abilities are transferred from combined pets in this process.

History [ ]

Pets were added to TERA in April 2013. First five pets were Prince, Rambo, Dragonette, Carnivorous Plant, and Candyspinner.[1]

The pet system experienced a major change on the computer version of TERA in May 2019[2] [3]. This change brought in companions and a pet leveling system. The PS4 and XBOX versions of TERA have yet to experience this change.

Most pets have no skills whatsoever. You have fuse them or use them as base for Companion Appearance Change, to make a companion look like one of these pets.

See Legacy Essence for pets available with these tokens.

Old Pet System [ ]

A Pet is a small creature that follows players around. Most pets are purchased from the TERA Store. Some pets are earned via achievements. Some pets can only be acquired by chance when opening a Loot Box.

A pet is summoned with a skill, which is obtained by reading a skill book titled "Care and Use of Your Pet [name]". These learned skills can be dragged from "Learned Skills" menu to shortcut bar to call or dismiss pet.

Some pets have abilities that enable them to do something that is helpful to the player. Not all pets have abilities and most pets only have one ability.

Pets will only perform their ability when they are summoned and properly fed. If a pet becomes hungry they will become tired and disappear. You can check your pets energy levels by clicking on them. You can also access a pets inventory by clicking on them.

Pet Abilities [ ]

  • Pet Pocket/Special Storage: Your pet has an inventory of their own with 72 slots for you to store your items in.
  • Emote: Your pet will show emotion to you, usually by saying something
  • Auto-loot: Your pet will pick up any items it comes near for you.
  • Auto-gold-loot: Your pet will pick up any gold it comes near for you.
  • Auto-gather: Your pet seeks out nearby nodes and gathers resources from them at reduced PP cost.
  • Auto-use: Your pet will use something automatically for you.
